MINUTES OF THE GENERAL BODY MEETING OF MELOW ON 23 FEB 2020
A General Body Meeting of all the members present at the 2020 conference was held in Panjab University.
Office bearers on the dais were Manju Jaidka, Anil Raina, Manpreet Kang, Vijay Sharma and Roshan Sharma.
The President, Manju Jaidka, addressed the gathering, congratulating the participants on the successful completion of the Conference. She complimented the volunteers and others who had worked behind the scenes. Further, she invited more members to help actively in the organization. The Association needs doers who are passionately committed to the cause. Younger scholars were invited to come forward and offer help.
The President also announced that delegates need to follow proper conference etiquettes, observe rules, guidelines and deadlines, and treat the conference with all seriousness. MELOW likes its delegates to interact actively with fellow participants, be present on all days of the conference and not make guest appearances. In case of special circumstances, prior intimation is to be given to the organizers.
Manpreet Kang, who is the Chief Editor of MEJO, the MELOW Journal, announced that the latest issue of the journal is now online and may be accessed at http://melow.in/journal.html She gave a brief report on the issues she had to face while putting this volume together and exhorted the participants to follow the guidelines while submitting their papers for publication. Delegates of MELOW 2020 who would like to submit their papers for possible publication should send their papers to melusmelow@gmail.com by 31st March 2020.
The Treasurer, Anil Raina, presented the accounts of MELOW which are meticulously kept, audited and available for anyone who would like to examine them.
This was MELOW 2020, the 19th Conference of the Society. On several occasions earlier a call has been made for mini-conferences but till date nothing has worked out. However, now, there is a possibility of having a Mini-MELOW Conference in Shoolini University, perhaps by the year-end. Meanwhile, it was announced by the President that several of the foreign delegates would be going for a seminar to Shoolini University and then to CUHP Dharamshala, immediately after the MELOW Conference.
The Meeting ended with a Vote of Thanks from Manpreet Kang, the Secretary who also announced that MELOW 2021 would be held in Indraprastha University, Dwarka Delhi, where an earlier Conference was held in 2016. The theme for the 2021 Conference, which would dove-tail with the IASA Conference (International Association for American Studies) would be announced soon.
