Professor Isaac Sequeira
(5 JAN 1930 - 7 SEPT 2006) |
Professor Isaac Sequeira's sad demise in 2006 created a void hard to fill. We, at MELUS-India / MELOW, wish to keep alive the memory of our Patron and guiding light who played a key role in all the activities of our organization.
In the first place, the papers of the 2005 ‘Landmarks’ Conference were dedicated to Isaac. The anthology was released at the March 2007 conference.
Secondly, we announced a cash prize of Rs. 2,500 for the best paper presented at our conferences (see details below). To facilitate this we needed a corpus fund, the interest of which would go towards the prize money.
With effect from the 2010 conference, there is a Special Invited Lecture by a person of eminence. This lecture is funded by the Isaac Sequeira Memorial Fund.
Several individuals have come forward to offer contributions towards the corpus and donated generously to this fund. A separate account is maintained for this fund and presented annually.
Donations of Rs. 1,000 or more may be sent in cash / by draft payable to MELOW at Chandigarh. Contributions may be mailed by registered post / courier to Prof. Manju Jaidka, Dept of English, Panjab University, Chandigarh - 160014.
